Wado Ryu Karate was founded by the late Master Hironori Ohtsuka. Master Ohtsuka was born in June 1892 and died in January 1982. Master Ohtsuka began with the study of Jujitsu and entered the Shinto-Yoshin Ryu school of Jujitsu at the age of 13.
At the age of 19, Master Ohtsuka entered university, continuing with his study of Jujitsu but was forced to leave university by the death of his father. Master Ohtsuka started his study of Karate under Gichin Funakoshi in the mid 1920`s. In the early 1930`s he founded the Wado Ryu style of Karate. Wado Ryu is taught all over the world and is one of the most popular styles of karate practiced today.
