To achieve the rank of Dan grade at Shukan Ryu will take on average 41/2 years of regular training. The syllabus is predominantly Wado Ryu with elements of Freestyle Sport Karate.
There are specialist classes for Kata and Kumite which 8th Kyu and above are able to attend. Senior students of 3rd Kyu and above are encouraged to assist in teaching lower grades as this promotes thier own understanding of the techniques in the syllabus.
During the period up to Dan grade, courses will be made available both within Shukan Ryu and from outside organisations. Dan grades are encouraged to take the Welsh Karate Governing Body Coaching Award (Sensei Paul Knight is a Governing Body Coaching Assessor).
